He has a new book coming out called, “The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid”—a memoir about growing up in the US midwest during the 1950’s and 60’s.
He has just released an amusing (and typically quirky) little video clip in which he reads a chapter from his new book.

Hey! I just wrote an entire post without once mentioning COCONUT.
Doh!!!
That was wonderful! The only book I’ve read of his is Made in America, and that was years ago. Might have to check this new one out.
“They would have immensely long conversations that seemed always to be dancing about on the edge of a curious happy derangement.”
Heh.I can relate to that.
10 points for the (almost) coconut free post.
Wait a minute… You weren’t even born, yet! Well ok, I’m a mid sixties.
I have to get myself that book. Was it chaise long or chaise longue??
Sorry. Had a long(ue) day!
Christina: He’s awesome, isn’t he? Whenever I read his books, I consider quitting writing and taking up needlepoint instead.
C-Swiss: I believe it’s “Chaste Lunch.”
Hi Sal – the book is available in Madrid. In English! (Well – American..) At the FNAC (a book and record store off the main square, the Puerta del Sol).
I saw it the other day while checking out the ‘books in foreign languages department’. Jolly nearly bought it, too!
Since I’m promoting English language book shops in Madrid – try ‘Pasajes’ at Genova 3 near Alonso Martinez.
