During my trip to downtown Chicago last Wednesday, my department and I took a Chicago architecture boat tour.
One of the buildings we floated past had a billboard advertising a health club.
The billboard is pictured above. I think it’s brilliant!
But my question is…for whom? My cats?!
Sal –
I took that same architectural boat tour last October. It was great. Hopefully, you had the “90-something” year old lady tour guide like I did. She was awesome – spoke about the architects from the 20s like they were former lovers, and complained non-stop about “condos taking over the city”. I gave her a little tip as I got off the boat, and she said “…thanks honey!” – just a great day!
What a small world…Cathy and I took the same tour boat with a couple of friends from Jaen who came to visit us 4 years ago. We had a wonderful time- except we were on opposite the side of the boat as the tour guide…and couldn’t see a damn thing about what he was talking about.
I really need to get to Chicago. It’s been too long. I think I also took that boat tour when my high school art class went to Chicago, many moons ago. I had a crush on a guy in the class so I paid more attention to him than the architecture, though.
BTW, anyone else think the bean looks like a fortune cookie from that angle? Or is it something in my coffee this morning? In any case, it’s pretty cool.
I can’t believe you were just three hours down the toll road, road construction and traffic aside. We would have even been in the same time zone, but we Hoosiers sprang forward this year. (*gasp*) Until November in Madrid, then!
Well, it sounds like there aren’t too many boat tours around Chi-town.
The face of the woman on the banner reminds me of a Grace Jones video from 1985 … I think it was “The Rhythm” … although this chick is as white as a sheet, the teeth are the same as the big head from “A View to a Kill.”
Ok. Now I want to go to Chicago, too (and Madrid, and Barcelona, and Bangkok, and Portugal, and ……..)
I live just 5 blocks from this gym! Their ad’s are quite good. . . but, the gym is ridiculously expensive to join. Also, it is very dark inside – like a lounge.. so that no one can see your imperfections. They are a little too focused on body image… in an unhealthy way! I have a friend who lives in this building & belong to the gym, but hates going b/c she says it is too dark & depressing!!! So happy you enjoyed your time here in Chicago!!
Mike B: Yeah, I thought the same thing about the woman in the photo when I first saw it. She looks like the fruit of a conjugal relationship between Grace Jones and Johnny Winter.
Tatiana: A yuppie gym? I assumed as much. As I’ve always said, the only gym anyone needs is a chin-up bar, a pair of running shoes and an iPod.
